Mangroves are important habitats on sheltered shores

Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai

The mangrove stand at the study site in this workshop is located at Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai in Tolo Harbour (Fig. 1). The mangrove stand can be easily accessed by coach or by the KMB Buses nos. 299 and 99 which stops at the Shui Long Woo () bus stop. A 15-minute walk down the road towards Yung Shui O from the bus stop will reach the mangrove stand (Fig. 1). The site is a gently shelving shore and the substratum is not very muddy, therefore this site is safe and suitable for students to carry out field work. There is also a patch of mangroves replanted by the Friends of the Earth which can be used to demonstrate the concept of replantation of mangroves in Hong Kong.
